ExtraEnergy, the German leader organization that work in the field of e-bikes, tested the Nuvelos Urban and their testers appreciated very much the bicycle.
In the report they exalt that enjoy the carefree pleasure of cycling, the excellent power assist from the Shimano Steps E6100 drive with automatic, smart-learning gear-changing and testers also much appreciated the polymer-based and completely recyclable frame design.
Shimano has successfully made the automatic gear-changing on its Steps E6100 system adapt to the personal preference of the rider, and in exemplary fashion. After just a few kilometres of riding with manual shifting, the automatic transmission ‘learns’ to alter the point at which it shifts gear by up to 13 pedal rotations per minute (rpm), either up or down. Crashed gear changes which are initially noticeable are swiftly minimised and subsequently become imperceptible, so the rider can concentrate completely on the road ahead.
Just loved it – enthused the test riders about the motor assistance. It cuts in precisely, pulls really well and is perfectly programmed. I can’t really imagine how it could be improved.
The automatic gear-changing is also available even while riding without the motor assist. The riding position is comfortable. When the motor is working you can barely hear it. Operation of the display is self-explanatory.
One rather special feature is the read-out of the motor’s power draw on the display, allowing especially ambitious riders to optimise their own performance and simultaneously boost their range.
The Rehau Nuvelos Urban in this ExtraEnergy test is a pre-production model, and one about which the test riders were ecstatic. We look forward to trying the production version!
