DS N°8 showcases a spectacular light signature

La nuova DS N°8

At the front, DS N°8 embraces an advanced and appealing light signature, with the DS Luminascreen illuminated grille, lit up with vertical lines and a DS logo illuminated for the first time on a production model.

The headlamps, consisting of three modules, are outlined by 8 LEDs that take the Clous de Paris pattern, echoing the interior trim’s embossed finish.

La nuova DS N°8The DS Lightblade completes this signature. The V-shaped layout, which first appeared on the DS E-Tense Performance technology laboratory, visually places the car on the road while emphasising its width and asserting its status. Slim and elongated, the DS Lightblade is vertical, in line with all the models in the DS Automobiles range. Integrated into the side curves of the bumper, it also contributes to DS N°8’s aero-efficiency by minimising airflow detachment up to the front wheels.

DS N°8 is the first model in the DS range to embrace the vertical light signature at the rear. Directly inspired by DS Aero Sport Lounge, it echoes the iconic vertical signature at the front to make DS N°8 instantly recognisable at night, more than 100 metres away. The trihedral shape of the vertical Light Blade lights improves airflow detachment at the rear. Lastly, scale patterns finish off the interior of the tapered horizontal rear lights. They are now three-dimensional to be even more striking.

DS N°8 features extended duo tone paintwork

DS N°8 has been designed around a subtle balance between smooth and sensual surfaces along the sides, contrasting with chiselled and sharp lines front and rear. As on DS Aero Sport Lounge, the extended duo tone paintwork uses a deep black. This colour is on the roof, continues onto the bonnet and extends to the grille. This extended duo tone emphasises the character and elegance of the shape and represents a nod to the heyday of French coachbuilding. The “Paintjet” technology used to create the duo tone bonnet’s black surface is a world first in mass production. Its application process, which doesn’t require a baking phase, also keeps down greenhouse gas emissions.

Five colours are being offered, including three new ones: Topaz Blue, Palladium Grey and Alabaster White, which are added to the other colours: Crystal Pearl and Perla Nera Black.

DS N°8 has a shape designed for aero efficiency

DS N°8’s shape assumes a taut, elongated and tapered profile that is illustrated by a roof stretching down to the tailgate’s spoiler. The latter optimises the wake with a resulting 3 dm² SCx saving, i.e. 12 km WLTP or 15 km on the motorway.

The elaborate body shape of DS N°8 helps airflow. Based on a generous wheelbase of 2.90 m and a ground clearance reduced by 15.5 cm DS N°8 optimises its air penetration and provides an amazing range of up to 750 km WLTP. The powered flush-fitting door handles at the front are painted in the bodywork colour, while the rear door handles are integrated into the door pillars.

La nuova DS N°8This “aero-efficiency” is complemented by high-tech parts such as the Controlled Air Intakes, which are air intakes with moving flaps integrated into the front bumper. By closing for cooling, they represent an aerodynamic gain of 95 % relative to a traditional air intake and 40 % compared to competing devices, for a 4.5 dm² SCx saving, equivalent to 18 km WLTP or 22,5 km on the motorway. This performance is mainly due to their forward position in the bumper, thus avoiding any airflow beneath the bonnet. It should be noted that the bonnet is particularly low, again with the aim of optimising energy consumption.

Aerodynamic performance is enhanced by the presence of the front DS Lightblade  which slices through the air like a boat’s bow for a 2 dm² saving, i.e. + 8 km WLTP / +10 km on the motorway. The rear DS Lightblade optimises airflow detachment like an aeroplane wing for a 1 dm² saving, i.e. + 4 km WLTP / +5 km on the motorway.

The large wheels (740 mm in diameter) give the car a unique stance. The 21-inch forged wheels have been designed to combine lightness and robustness. They weigh 6 kg less than the 20-inch ones, a significant saving in unsprung mass for the benefit of comfort. The 19-inch rims are particularly efficient with aerodynamic inserts for a gain of 1 dm² or 4 km WLTP and 5 km on the motorway.

The breast of DS N°8, completely tiled, helps to optimise the SCx by 3.5 dm² or + 14 km WLTP or +18 km on motorway.
